Optiemus Infracom, a leading Indian electronics manufacturing services provider, has announced a strategic partnership with Corning Incorporated, a global leader in glass and ceramics technology, to produce high-quality tempered glass screen protectors in India. This move is part of India’s growing emphasis on domestic manufacturing and reducing dependency on imports, especially in the smartphone accessories sector.

Boost to ‘Make in India’ Initiative

Under the collaboration, Optiemus will leverage Corning’s advanced glass technology and its own large-scale manufacturing capabilities to deliver durable, scratch-resistant, and high-transparency tempered glass solutions for smartphones and other electronic devices. This aligns with the Indian government’s push for local value addition in electronics manufacturing, potentially creating new job opportunities and improving product affordability for consumers.

Technology Meets Local Expertise

Corning, known for its Gorilla Glass used in millions of smartphones worldwide, will provide material technology and quality assurance expertise. Optiemus will manage large-scale production, ensuring that products meet both domestic and international standards. The tempered glass protectors will be aimed at premium as well as budget smartphone segments, enabling a wider market reach.

Domestic Market and Export Potential

With India being one of the largest smartphone markets in the world, the demand for screen protectors is massive. By producing them locally, Optiemus and Corning aim to reduce import reliance and also tap into export opportunities for neighboring markets in South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. The manufacturing facility is expected to start production later this year.
